Men's Indoor Track & Field Posts MAC Qualifying Marks in Pair of Meets

Reading Pa. / Bethlehem, Pa. – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's indoor track & field team recorded several Middle Atlantic Conference Indoor Championships qualifying marks as they competed in two meets Saturday.

Stevens competed in both the Fast Times Before Break at Lehigh University while also running at the Alvernia Winter Meet. Neither meet had a team score, with the competition featuring several MAC and regional opponents.


HOW IT HAPPENED
First-year Enrico Parrella punched his ticket MAC's with a first-place time of 4.36.2 in the mile. Parrella, competing for the first time, won by over six seconds. Classmates Kevin Medrow (4:43.35) and Matthew Hodorowski (4:48.41) finished third and fourth as Cillian Griffin was seventh in 5:04.8. Fellow first-year Ethan Stallone led a trio of first-year Ducks in the top three spots in the 60-hurdles. Stallone qualified for the MAC Indoor Championship with a first-place time of 8.6, as William Ladd (8.97) and Joseph Perriello (9.11) were second and third. Ladd also notched a third-place height of 1.78m in the high jump.

Justin Gajewski took first place in the triple jump, reaching 12.29m. He won by over 1.27m against Quinn Harter from Alvernia. Gajewski wasn't done with MAC qualifying marks, as his distance of 5.96m in the long jump sent him to the postseason and was good for third place. Perriello was fifth, hitting 5.89m. Also, in the field events, the Ducks had five student-athletes who finished in the top eight in weight throw. Aidan Greene was second with a throw of 13.17m as Brandon Fox (12.82m), Cooper Kinsley (12.76m), Emmanuel Vega (11.76m), and Gabriel Kovach (9.36m) followed in the top eight. Fox, Kinsley, and Vega all notched qualifying marks.


On the track, Kyle Savino grabbed a second-place time of 51.48, missing first by .36. Savino took sixth in the 60-meter, clocking in at 7.4. Tyler Hackett was third in the 200 (23.62) and fourth in the 60 (7.32), as Douglas Winant placed third in the 60 (7.31). Chase Kosiba turned in an eighth-place mark of 55.44 in the 400 and a ninth-place time of 24.56 in the 200-meter.


At the Lehigh Meet, Brandon Keifer took third in the heptathlon. He totaled 4,201 points over the seven events. He clocked in with a mark of 9.75 in the 60-meter hurdles, 3.78m in the pole vault, and a time of 3:19.71 in the 1,000-meter. James Johnson was eighth overall, and Connor Efinger took ninth. Johnson had a time of 10.63 in the 60-hurdles, hit a height of 2.88m in the pole vault, and clocked in at 3:12.55 in the 1,000 as Efinger registered a time of 10.64 in the hurdles, 2.18m in the pole vault, and 3:09.71 in the 1,000.


Andrew Ananthrajah was the top finisher amongst seven Ducks in the pole vault. The senior reached 3.8m to finish sixth overall and notch a MAC qualifying height. Michael Dao was ninth with 3.8m also to hit the standard for MACs, with Kyle Miller (3.65m), Braedan Joyce (3.65m), Christopher Persico (3.5m), David Huang (3.5m), and Cullen Grady (3.2m) also competed in the pole vault.


INSIDE THE MEET
  • Stallone's time of 8.6 marked the seventh fastest time in the 60-hurdles in program history.
  • Savino narrowly missed entering the top 10 in the 400, falling .04 seconds shy.
UP NEXT
The Ducks close out 2024 next Friday as they compete in the Seahawk Shootout, hosted by Wagner College, at the Ocean Breeze Track & Field Complex.
