READING, Pa. (February 23, 2024) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's indoor track and field team earned a gold medal in the distance medley relay to lead the Ducks on the first day of the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Championship. The annual event is being held at Alvernia's Tom & Helen Flynn Complex.

Graduate student Ronnie Melao, sophomores Mick Barbi and Danny Jutras, along with senior Jake Aylmer finished the race in 10:19.72, finishing more than two-and-a-half seconds ahead of second-place Lebanon Valley. The race victory was the first DMR championship for the Ducks in the MAC and was the first for the program since 2019. The winning time was just under three seconds off the conference's indoor championship record (10:16.99).

As a team, the Ducks totaled 14 points on the day to sit in sixth place among the 16 competing schools. DeSales amassed 32 points on the opening day of competition to sit atop the team standings. Pre-championship favorite Lebanon Valley sits in second with 27, with Misericordia (25), Widener (24) and Stevenson (15) rounding out the top-five.

Senior Liam Concannon took seventh in the 5,000 with 15:29.65 to earn a pair of points for Stevens. Sophomore Kyle Savino, first-year Tyler Hackett and classmate Doug Winant partnered with sophomore Connor Robinson to take seventh in the 4x200-meter relay with a time of 1:33.28 to collect the final two points for the Ducks.

Elsewhere, senior Federico Yacoubian ran a personal-best 8.49 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles to earn the third seed in Saturday's championship. Also, sophomore Brandon Kiefer holds second place (2,588 points) through the first four events of the heptathlon. Kiefer won the 60-meter dash in 7.22 seconds, narrowly missing a new PR. He then won the long jump with a mark of 6.30 meters on his first attempt and finished seventh in the shot put (11.01 meters) before taking second in the high jump (1.74 meters). Kiefer trails Lebanon Valley's Alex Sabo by 99 points with the 60-meter hurdles, the pole vault and the 1000-meter run on the docket for Saturday.
