WAYNE, N.J. (February 28, 2024) – Sophomore Erik Sibbach picked up his third win of the season, while graduate student Michael Reyes recorded three hits and two RBI, as the Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team beat William Paterson 3-2 Wednesday afternoon. The game was rescheduled from February 18.
Sibbach (3-0) was once again solid for the Ducks. He pitched five innings and picked up nine strikeouts, bringing his season total to 27. He allowed two runs (unearned) on four hits. Senior Axel Johnson earned his second save of the year, pitching 0.2 innings and striking out one. He came in with a runner in scoring position in the ninth.
The Ducks open up the season 4-0 for the first time since 2021. The Ducks defeated William Paterson for the second time this year, winning 3-1 last Thursday. The Ducks also start 2-0 on the road.
With the win, Stevens improves to 6-16-1 against the Pioneers, as the Ducks have won two-straight against the Pioneers. William Paterson dropped their fourth-straight game of the season, falling to 1-4.
The Rundown
- Senior Jack Irby walked to start the second inning and Reyes singled to put runners on first and second for the Ducks. After one out, junior Jack Stafford was hit by a pitch that loaded the bases. First-year Chip Krese then hit a sacrifice fly to center field in the next at bat, bringing home Irby and putting the Ducks up 1-0.
- The Pioneers scored two runs in the bottom half of the second to take a 2-1 lead.
- Stevens answered with two runs of their own to take a 3-2 lead in the third. With one out, junior Eli Somers singled for the Ducks. Senior Christian Kreiser then walked, and Irby followed with a single to left to load the bases. Reyes recorded another hit in the next at bat, as he hit a ground-rule double to score Somers and Kreiser.
- Neither team generated a run past the third inning.
- With runners on first and second with one out, Johnson came in relief and clutched up for the Ducks, as he tallied his second save of the season.

- Krese had the only other RBI for Stevens.
- Five Ducks produced one hit in the game to go along with Reyes' three.
- Somers, Kreiser, and Irby each scored one run.
- Sophomore Dylan Fishbough stole two bases in the contest.
- Junior Joe Gonzalez struck out three in two innings of work.

- Darmany Rivas (0-1) took the loss, allowing three runs on six hits. He struck out just three batters.
- Jake Lutz produced two hits and two RBI.
