HOBOKEN, N.J. (February 4, 2024) – Senior Christopher Stone finished with nine victories to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology men's fencing team to a 3-1 record Sunday at the Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Fencing Conference Group B Round Robin, held at Canavan Arena.

Graduate student Patrick Pan had eight wins and sophomore Nick Reznick added seven for the Ducks, who defeated Hunter, Army and Yeshiva at the annual event. The Ducks' only setback on the day was against Division I New Jersey Institute of Technology as Stevens closed the day with a 15-15 record.

Stevens began the day with a 24-3 victory over Hunter to extend the Ducks' winning streak against the Hawks to 32. The Ducks then fell to the Highlanders 20-7 before righting the ship after the break with a 23-4 triumph over the United States Military Academy and rounded out the day with a 24-3 win over Yeshiva. The wins over Army and Yeshiva extended the Ducks' winning streak against the teams to 30 and 36, respectively.

Stone won three matches in each of the Ducks' three dual wins on the day, marking his second-highest win total of the season, in improving to 33-16. The Hanover, Virginia native has led the Ducks in victories in two of the six team events this season.

Prior to the event, the men's fencing program recognized its Class of 2024: Stone, Pan, seniors Erik Marran and Caleb Romero and graduate students Jack Corridon, James Morris and Dylan Woodward for their accomplishments and contributions to the team.

The Rundown
  • The day began with victories in all three weapons as the Ducks topped Hunter. Foil posted a 7-2 record, with sophomore James Glover joining Reznick with perfect 3-0 records. Epee also had a strong day against the Hawks with an 8-1 margin of victory with Pan and sophomore Yash Yagnik each going 3-0. The three wins by Yagnik matched a season high. As good as epee and foil were, sabre was even better, posting a 9-0 in one of the Ducks' two shutouts on the day. Stone and junior Colin Mahoney were each 3-0, with Woodward and junior Myles Reda combining for the other three wins. Reda saw action on the strips for the first time this season.
  • Against NJIT, epee did the heavy lifting, edging the Highlanders by a narrow 5-4 margin. Pan and junior Nicholas Smith each went 2-1, while sophomore Andrew Yurovchak went 1-2. Unfortunately, NJIT would win the other weapons via the same 8-1 margin to claim the dual. Junior Thomas Cheng had the Ducks' victory at foil, while Woodward had a win at sabre.
  • After the break, foil and sabre each went 8-1 as the Ducks downed Army. Glover was a perfect 3-0, while junior Rocco Mathews and first-year Liam Thomas each had two wins. Over at sabre, joining Stone with an unblemished mark was first-year Tyler Kometani, while Reda added another two wins. Romero gained his lone three wins on the day in the dual with Army, helping his epee squad to a 7-2 victory over their counterparts.
  • Foil posted the Ducks' second, and final shutout, with a 9-0 over Yeshiva's foilists. Mathews, Reznick and Thomas each went a perfect 3-0, while Stone, Pan, Kometani and junior Jose Martinez-Ponce also had unblemished marks in the event-closing victory over the Maccabees.
  • In terms of individual victories, Glover and Thomas each finished the day with six wins, while Mathews had five. Reda completed competition with four wins, while a large group (Mahoney, Woodward, Martinez-Ponce, Romero, and Yagnik) of Ducks had three. Sophomore Matthew Kemenosh picked a pair of victories in his first action of the season, while sophomore Esat Adiloglu, Smith, Corridon and first-year Riley Parker all matched the Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey native by winning twice. The two victories by Adiloglu were his first career wins. Cheng and Yurovchak each won once to round out the Duck wins on the afternoon.

Top Performers
  • For the day, all three weapons finished with winning records. The epee group led the way with a 28-8 mark (0.778 winning percentage), while sabre and foil posted identical 25-11 records (0.694 winning percentage). As a team, the Ducks went 78-30 on the day (.722 winning percentage), for the team's best winning percentage of the season.
  • Within the weapon groups, the epee group scored victories over all four opponents, while the only blemish against both the sabre and foil teams was against NJIT.
