Vickers and Beaver Each Post Top-10 Finishes at the Conquer the Island Tournament

Vickers finished in a tie for seventh, while Beaver finished in a tie for 10th.

SHAWNEE on the DELAWARE, Pa. (April 18, 2024) – Senior Gus Vickers finished in a tie for seventh, as the Stevens Institute of Technology golf "A" team finished in a tie for sixth, while the "B" team finished 8th at the Conquer the Island tournament. The round was played at the Shawnee Inn & Golf Resort (6,725 yards – par 72).

Vickers led the way for the Stevens "A" team as he carded a 1-over 73. He finished five strokes behind Drew's Elliot Parker, who won the tournament. 77 golfers competed in the event. Jason Koch (-3, 2nd) and T.J. Bohl (E, T-4th) each finished in the top five for Moravian, while Eric Castner (E, T-4th) and Liam Larkin (E, T-4th) finished inside the top 5 as members of the Drew "B" Team. Elizabethtown's Chris Kilduff hit a hole in one on his final hole (-1, 3rd) to round out the top five.

As a team, the Ducks' "A" team finished with a score of 310, finishing 17 strokes behind the team champions Moravian. Drew's "B" team came in second, finishing three behind Moravian, while the Rangers' "A" team finished in a tie for third with Scranton, as both shot 301. Eastern rounded out the top five with a score of 309. The Ducks' "B" team finished in eighth out of 15 teams in the competition, as they had a score of 317.

The Rundown

  • Vickers made two birdies in his round today. After going 1-over on the front nine, the senior made birdie on 11 and 15 before giving shots back on 16 and 17. He was 2-under on the par 5's. 
  • First-year Sebastian Beaver also finished inside the top 10 for the Ducks as he competed on the "A" team. It was a slow start for Beaver as he found himself 4-over after five holes, but he righted the ship with a birdie on six. After bogeying the ninth hole to close out the front, Beaver came back with a birdie on 11 to put him back to 3-over. He made par on the rest of the holes on the back nine.
  • Claiming the top spot on the "B" team was sophomore Brock Dickson, who has been playing well for the Ducks this past week. He made one birdie on the day, with the tally coming on the 360-yard par-four 12th. He finished with a 4-over 76, which was good for a T-14th finish.
  • Although first-year Maxime Debets carded eight bogeys on the day, he did make an eagle on the par 5 15th, which was the only eagle for the team on the day. His score counted for the "A" team and he finished in a tie for 23rd after shooting 6-over.
  • Junior Eduardo Terlaje shot a 7-over 79 for the "B" team. He did not have a birdie on his card, but he did play the par 3's 1-over on the day. He made 11 pars.
  • Senior Joss Hindin and junior Will Fulton each had 9-over 81's for the "B" team as they both finished in a tie for 41st. Fulton did well on the par 5's, as he finished 2-over on them. Hindin was consistent on the par 4's, shooting 1-over on them for the round.
  • First-year Noah Eide (+10, T-45th), sophomore Punn Chittaratlert (+12, T-49th), and Dillon Kim (+12, T-49th) rounded out the scores for the Ducks.

For the Opponents

  • Parker made five birdies, including four straight from holes three to six.
  • Koch also birdied five holes, but he bogeyed the 18th to lose the event.
  • Castner carded 18 birdies and two pars.

Around the MAC Freedom 

  • Delaware Valley and DeSales had a dual match on Monday, with the Aggies defeating the Bulldogs 319 to 330.
  • The Aggies then also defeated FDU-Florham in a dual match the following day, as they scored 315 while the Devils scored 330.
  • Lebanon Valley finished 10th out of 13 teams at the Franklin & Marshall Invitational on Monday.

Up Next
