MOHNTON, Pa. (April 2, 2024) – Sophomore Austin Liao and first-year Maxime Debets each carded a 5-over 77 to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology golf team to a second-place finish yesterday at the Alvernia Spring Invitational, contested at LedgeRock Golf Club (6,790 yards – par 72).
Both golfers tied for sixth place out, with 53 total participants competing in the tournament. They finished six strokes behind Albright's Ben Egin, who took first place in the tournament.
As a team, the Ducks finished with a score of 312, finishing just one stroke behind St. Lawrence. It was a tight race at the top, as Washington & Jefferson finished one stroke behind the Ducks to finish in third, while Alvernia rounded out the top four one stroke behind third.The event was originally scheduled as a two-day event, but rainfall today made the course unplayable, ending the tournament a day early.
The Rundown
	- Liao's score counted for the team, while Debets competed as an individual. The two combined for just one birdie on the day, but they saved enough pars to keep them inside the top ten.
 
	- First-year Sebastian Beaver and junior Eduardo Terlaje finished in a tie for 13th with 6-over 78's. Both golfers tallied one birdie for the round, with Beaver's birdie coming on the opening hole.
 
	- Senior Gus Vickers carded a 7-over 79 to finish in a tie for 19th. Vickers led the Ducks on the day with two made birdies, but the senior also had two double bogeys on the card.
 
	- First-year Dillon Kim rounded out the countable scores for the Ducks. He finished in a tie for 24th, as he shot an 8-over 80.
 
	- Junior Will Fulton entered as an individual along with Debets and finished tied with Vickers with a 7-over 79. He birdied the 18th hole.
 
For the Opponents

Jimmy King (St. Lawrence) and Shawn Williams (Alvernia) tied for second with 1-over 73's. Dan Murphy (Cabrini) and Frankie Sass (Cabrini) each finished with 2-over 74's to round out the top five. Seven golfers,  including Liao and Debets, finished in a tie for sixth.
	 
Around the MAC Freedom 
	- Arcadia came in last place at the PCT Spring Break Challenge from March 11-12.
 
	- Arcadia would finish sixth out of nine teams at the Ruckus Challenge, which took place from March 23-24.
 
	- DeSales finished in a tie for sixth at the Lebanon Valley Invitational on March 25. In the same tournament, Lebanon Valley's Blue team tied for 11th, while the Lebanon Valley White team came in 16th out of 17 teams.
 
	- DeSales came in second out of nine teams at the Albright Invitational on March 27. FDU-Florham came in last.
 
	- Arcadia finished T-8th in this event.
