BOULDER CITY, Nev. (May 15, 2024) – Senior Gus Vickers shot a 3-over 75 as the Stevens Institute of Technology men's golf team finished in 40th after day two at the NCAA Tournament. The top 18 teams make the cut for the third and fourth rounds. The second round of the tournament was played at Boulder Creek Golf Club (7,377 yards – par 72).
Oglethorpe's Michael O'Sullivan currently leads the field after shooting a 2-under 70 in the second round. He sits at 8-under. Pennsylvania College of Technology's Peyton Mussina, Emory's Jackson Klutznick, and Kenyon's Jaiden Koonar are all one stroke off the top spot. Drew Hermesmeyer (Schriener) and Jonas De Leon (Redlands) round out the top five as both players sit at 5-under.
As a team, the Ducks finished with a score of 310 in the second round, which was six strokes better than their first round score. The Ducks totaled 626 for the tournament, as they sit in 40th and will not make the cut. Redlands holds the lead after the second round at 13-under. Kenyon sits two strokes behind Redlands after posting 5-under as a team today. Methodist University sits in third at 10-under. Carnegie Mellon (-7) and Schreiner (-4) round out the top five. Schriener had the lowest score of all the teams today, as they shot 8-under.
The Rundown
- Vickers made five birdies in the second round, including four on the front nine. He was able to shoot even par on the second nine holes of the second round. The senior finished 3-under on the par 5's today. He was the lowest finisher for Stevens as he came in a tie for 116th.
- After shooting an 80 on Tuesday, sophomore Austin Liao trimmed four strokes off in his second round as he shot a 4-over 76. He matched Vickers with five birdies today. After starting on hole 10, the sophomore started the back nine 2-under after making birdie on holes one and two.
- First-year Sebastian Beaver finished in a tie for 158th after shooting a 6-over 78 in the second round. He was 1-under through the first five holes after making a birdie on the par 5 13th, but he ran into trouble on the 15th. He would later make back-to-back birdies on holes four and five.
- Sophomore Brock Dickson shot a 9-over 81. He just made one birdie for the day, which came on the par 5 13th.
- First-year Maxime Debets rounded out the scores for the Ducks. He shot a 10-over 82 and made one birdie in his round today.
- As a team, the Ducks were 2-under on the par 5's across the two days.
