NORMAN, Okla. (May 16, 2024) – Senior Gus Vickers of the Stevens Institute of Technology golf team was named to the Ping All-Region II Team, the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced Thursday.
Vickers became the first player in the program's history to be named to the All-Region team twice, after previously earning a spot on the team last year as well. He is just the third player in program history to earn the recognition, joining alumni Frank Szucs and Eddie Sot, who received the accolade in 2016 and 2022, respectively.
Vickers won two tournaments during the spring season, as he claimed the top spot in both the Garden State Collegiate Classic and the DeSales Spring Invitational. He shot a 2-under 70 in the final round to propel himself to victory in the Garden State Collegiate Classic. He was the only golfer to finish under par in the field. He then posted a 1-under 71 in the DeSales Spring Invitational. Vickers also tied for first in the five team Melee field back in October.
The senior golfer had six top ten finishes to lead the Ducks this year. He was ranked 129th out of all the Division III golfers on Spikemark. The Naples, Florida native posted a 74.3 scoring average this season prior to the NCAA Tournament, which was almost two strokes better than his average last season.
A total of 105 golfers across seven regions were recognized by the GCAA. Each all-region selection is eligible for All-America honors.
