HOBOKEN, N.J. – In its first home dual meet of the 2024-25 season, the Stevens Institute of Technology wrestling team, No. 22 in the most recent National Wrestling Coaches' Association (NWCA) poll picked up five victories including a technical fall for
Blaise Wagner, but fell, 25-18, in a dual with NYU Friday night at Canavan Arena.
The Rundown
- With two forfeits and a loss via fall between 125 and 141, the Ducks trailed 18-0 entering the 149-pound contest.
- Carmen Cortese recorded two first period takedowns, adding two more in the final minute of the second period during a 21-15 win at 149.
- Chris Stathopoulos secured two third period takedowns for a 9-6 decision win at 165.
- Harrison Hinojosa picked up a 10-0 major decision win at 174, thanks in large part to a takedown and last second near fall in the first period.
- Joel Martsinovsky bookended his 7-3 decision win at 184 with takedowns in the first and third period.
- In one of the more dominant performances of the evening, Wagner recorded three takedowns and a last-second near fall in the first period, closing out his 18-2 technical fall victory early in the second period.
For the Opponents
- Jacob Venezia picked up a fall for the Violets at 133.
- Cooper Pontelandolfo picked up a 2-0 decision win at 157.
- Evan Anderson clinched the win with a major decision win at 285.
