Men's Soccer to Visit Brandeis for NCAA Tournament First Round

Hoboken, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team ships up to Massachusetts for the First and Second Rounds of the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship.

The Ducks, who earned the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, will take on host Brandeis University on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. Top-seeded Tufts University will face Penn State Harrisburg at 11:00 a.m., with the two winners meeting Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

Stevens captured its fifth consecutive MAC Freedom crown with a 1-0 victory over Lebanon Valley College in the championship match. Senior Ryan O'Byrne broke a scoreless deadlock in the 84th minute, firing from outside the 18-yard box to beat a diving goalkeeper. O'Byrne was also instrumental in the MAC Freedom Semifinal win over Misericordia, scoring once alongside Sam Gjokaj and Emerson Kekesi.

Brandeis (9-3-5, 1-3-3 UAA) enters the tournament led by Nico Beninda, who has 12 points on five goals—including three game-winners. Rainer Osselmann-Chai has added four goals, while goalkeeper Tyler Correnti has made 44 saves in 16 appearances as the Judges have allowed just 19 goals this season. Stevens and Brandeis share one common opponent in NYU, with the Ducks earning a 3-2 win and the Judges playing to a 1-1 draw.

Top-seeded Tufts captured the NESCAC Championship on Sunday with a 1-0 win over Connecticut College. Xavier Canfin scored the game-winning goal with 8:56 remaining to snap a scoreless tie. The Jumbos' defense has been among the best in the nation, conceding only nine goals all season and allowing multiple goals in a game just once. Stevens and Tufts have met twice previously, both in the NCAA Tournament: the Jumbos earned a 1-0 win in the 2018 Second Round, and the teams drew in the 2021 Second Round before Tufts advanced on penalty kicks, 11-10.

Penn State Harrisburg enters the weekend after defeating Penn College 3-0 to claim the United East Conference Championship. Liam Gohn leads the Nittany Lions with nine goals, while Addis Tafese and Malachi Abma have combined for 15 more. In goal, Erik Rodriguez and Ethan Smith have split time, with Smith making 22 saves and Rodriguez posting a 7-0-2 record.
