Castleton, Vt. – The Stevens Institute of Technology wrestling team dropped a pair of duals in a Vermont State Castleton-hosted tri-match Saturday, falling to No. 4 Roanoke 28-10 and the host Spartans 28-14.
Cole Handlovic and
Ryan Smith each won both of their matches, with Smith picking up a pair of Top-10 wins and Handlovic picking up one for the Ducks.
The Rundown – Roanoke
The Maroons picked up two major decisions and a technical fall between 125, 133, and 141, going in front 13-0 through the first three matches. Facing No. 5/No. 6 Taylor Smith at 149, Handlovic took a 1-0 decision, getting three points on the board for Stevens. Smith added another three with a 4-2 decision win over No. 9/No. 6 Casey Smith at 157. After Roanoke picked up decision and major decision wins at 165 and 174,
Noah MacIlroy kept the Ducks alive with a 14-4 major decision win at 184, but the Maroons closed the match out with a technical fall at 197 and another decision at heavyweight.

Down 10-0 after technical fall defeats at 125 and 133,
Nico Diaz got the Ducks comeback attempt started with a 17-4 major decision win at 141 pounds. Handlovic followed with another major decision, 11-1, and Smith picked up his second decision victory of the day, shooting the Ducks in front, 11-10, halfway through.
Ian Flanagan answered a Spartans decision win at 165 with one of his own at 174, putting the Ducks back in front 14-13, but Castleton put the match away with two pins and a decision over the final three matches.
