COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Stevens Institute of Technology wrestling team finished in 7th place out of 13 teams at the Ursinus-hosted Racich Rumble on Saturday featuring three competitors placing in the top five of their respective weight classes.
Sidney Dillon finished as the runner-up at 141 pounds,
Tyler Roe took third at 165 pounds, and
George Pavis finished fifth at 149, and
Noah Berlin-Langston took fifth at heavyweight – Roe and Pavis each picked up their second top-six finish of the season after all placed at the Ned McGinley Invitational last Saturday. In all, 22 wrestlers competed for the Ducks in Collegeville on Saturday.
Stevens finished with 82 points, sandwiched between St. John Fisher (85) and Western New England (80.5). By the slimmest of margins, NYU clipped Messiah for the top spot, 159.5 to 159.
The Rundown
- Unranked at 141, Dillon started his day with a dramatic pin 33 seconds into the third period of a match he was trailing 3-1 against No. 4 Daniel Echeverria of Trinity. After two more falls, both in the first period, Dillon fell via a 5-2 decision to No. 3 James Carlock of NYU.
- Roe, the No. 4 seed at 165, picked up wins via technical fall, then major decision, then decision, advancing to the semifinals where he fell to No. 1 Keegan Demarest of Messiah. Roe took fifth with another major decision win in his final match of the day.
- Pavis, No. 4 at 149, began his day with a technical fall and decision before being knocked to the consolation draw with a 3-2 decision loss to No. 5 James Linder Jr. of Western New England. Pavis picked up three more wins, including one via forfeit in the fifth-place match.
- The No. 7 seed at heavyweight, Berlin-Langston dropped his first match of the day, but ran through the consolation draw with a technical fall, a sudden victory decision, and a pin against No. 3 seed Micah Martinez of Messiah. The first-year's day came to an end with a decision loss in the consolation semis.
- Michael O'Connor (157) and Noah Berlin-Langston each dropped their first match of the day then reeled off three wins in a row, just missing out on a spot in their respective top-six.
- Roe was joined at 165 by Anthony Bistany who picked up two early wins; additionally, Dominic Marinilli (133), Chris Piazza (174), Sawyer Pugh (174), Kristian Koroveshi (184), Cole Grenier (197), and Terrence Thomas (197) all contributed two victories each for Stevens.
- Elsewhere, the Ducks got one win apiece from Adam Ramadan, Ben Rosa, Brendan Schuler, KJ Honnig, and Naci Robinson.
