HOBOKEN, N.J –
Joel Martsinovsky,
Branden Bulatao,
Blaise Wagner, and
Ryan Smith all secured victories for the Stevens Institute of Technology wrestling team, but the Ducks, No. 24 in the latest National Wrestling Coaches' Association (NWCA) rankings, fell 26-15 to No. 9 TCNJ in a dual at Canavan Arena Friday night.
The Rundown
- TCNJ opened the evening with a major decision win at 174.
- Martsinovsky secured takedowns in the first and third periods of his match at 184, collecting a 7-4 decision win.
- Bulatao secured a takedown in the final seconds of the second period, then added three more in the third, picking up a 12-3 major decision win at 197, pushing Stevens into the lead, 7-4.
- Wagner secured five takedowns, including one in the final five seconds of the match, plus a four-point near fall, for a well-earned 19-4 technical fall win at heavyweight and a 12-4 advantage in the dual for the Ducks.
- After a Stevens forfeit at 125, TCNJ picked up a technical fall at 133, and major decisions at 141 and 149, taking an 11-point cushion with two matches left.
- Smith picked up the Ducks' final win of the evening, a 7-1 decision victory at 157.
For the Opponents
- Hunter Mays, Sam Kotch, and Mike Conklin all earned major decision victories at 174, 141, and 149, respectively.
- Garrett Totten grabbed a technical fall victory at 133.
