Madison, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's fencing team finished in sixth place overall at the NIWFA Championships on Saturday afternoon.

Stevens saw the sabre weapon group secure a strong fourth-place finish, with foil taking sixth and epee placing eighth overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED

In sabre, Stevens advanced two competitors to the Round of 16 after pool play. Ashlyn Leung was seeded fourth, while Sasha Craine earned the eighth seed. Leung faced Jessie Tong of Johns Hopkins University and was defeated 15-8. Craine fell 15-7 to Arwen Gormley of Tufts. Leung finished 10th overall, with Craine placing 12th.
 
The Ducks also had two fencers qualify for the Round of 16 in foil. Elizabeth MacDonald, seeded 14th, was eliminated in a 15-3 bout against Hannah Du of Boston University. Julia DiPaolo, the 16th seed, was defeated 15-6 by top-seeded Rosabel Cepero of Johns Hopkins University. Both MacDonald and DiPaolo secured top-16 finishes, placing 14th and 16th, respectively.
 
Stevens, which finished eighth in epee, had one fencer advance to the Round of 16. Grace Hicks, seeded eighth, faced ninth-seeded Caira Blake of Tufts in the opening round. Hicks was edged out 15-13, securing the No. 8 spot in the final standings.
