Ryan Smith took seventh place at 157 pounds and graduate student
Luke Hoerle finished eighth at 141 pounds for the Stevens Institute of Technology wrestling team on the final day of competition at the 2025 Division III Wrestling Championships Saturday from Amica Mutual Pavilion.
The Ducks finished the event in 18
th place; Wartburg and host institution Johnson & Wales tied for the team title.
Smith's day began with a match against Peter Kane, the No. 2 seed in the bracket entering the weekend. The match remained 0-0 into the third period before Kane picked up five points for a decision win. In the 7
th place match against No. 8 seed Clayton McDonough of Lutheran. Smith picked up takedowns in each of the first two periods on his way to a 7-3 decision win.
In his first match of the day against the bracket's No. 4 seed, Ty Bisek of Concordia-Moorhead, Hoerle conceded a takedown late in the first period and was pinned shortly thereafter, putting him in the 7
th place match, where he lost via major decision against Tommy Thongseng of co-team national champion Wartburg.
Both Smith and Hoerle secured All-America status with their performances Friday, the third straight for Smith and first for Hoerle in his third appearance at Championship Weekend.
