Box Score Kerrville, Texas – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team earned its first win in the Lone Star State, defeating Schreiner University 5-2 on Wednesday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Ducks secured the doubles point by winning two of the three matches.
Stephanie Untermeyer and
Lorena Piegas picked up a 6-4 victory at the No. 1 flight, while Schreiner responded with a 6-3 win at No. 2. The duo of
Julia Chiovitti and
Gigi Arenas clinched the doubles point for Stevens with a 6-4 triumph at No. 3.
In singles play, Stevens claimed victories in four of the six flights to seal the win.
Alix Dry controlled the top of the lineup with a pair of 6-4 set wins at No. 1, while
Milagros Carbajal Diaz cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 2. After a setback at No. 3,
Emma Eguia dominated at No. 4, posting a 6-3, 6-0 win. Chiovitti battled in a three-set match at No. 5, dropping the first set 6-1 before bouncing back with a 6-3 win to force a tiebreak, where she was edged 10-5.
Wei-Wei Lai delivered the most dominant performance of the afternoon, not dropping a single game in a commanding 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 6.
