Ithaca, N.Y. – Alexis Merola set a new school record in the pole vault as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's indoor track & field team competed in two events at the AARTFC Indoor Championships.
After seven events, the Ducks have yet to score any team points; SUNY Geneseo leads with 57 points, followed by Ithaca with 35.83 points and Brockport with 20.
HOW IT HAPPENED
A week after winning the Middle Atlantic Conference in the pole vault, Merola rewrote the record books. Merola, who previously held the second-best mark in program history at 3.35 m, set a new record by clearing 3.47 m on her third attempt at that height. She cleared 3.17 m and 3.32 m on her first tries at those heights and needed three attempts to clear 3.47 m, surpassing Rebecca Tylock's previous record of 3.36 m set on March 1, 2013.
Stevens also competed in the 4x400 relay, finishing in 13th place. The quartet of
Lauren Alley,
Anya Sadowski,
Isabel Vogel, and
Isabella Shanley crossed the finish line in 4:07.38. They held off the 14th-place team by 0.74 seconds but were edged out of 12th place by Colby College by 0.31 seconds.
