ANNVILLE, Pa. – Eli Somers and
David Finch of the Stevens Institute of Technology baseball were both named Academic All-MAC by the Middle Atlantic Conference office Tuesday, the latest postseason honors for each.
Somers' academic honor is the latest in a postseason haul that already includes d3baseball First Team and American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings Second Team All-Region and All-MAC Second Team recognition. The Ranchos Palos Verdes, Calif. native hit.377 with eight home runs, 41 RBIs, a .635 slugging percentage, an OPS of 1.106, 63 hits (including 13 doubles), and 106 total bases this past season – every single one of those marks aside from batting average a Top 10 single-season mark in program history. Somers also entered the program's career Top 10 lists in home runs, extra-base hits, total bases, slugging percentage, and on-base percentage.
Finch's breakout 2025 season garnered MAC Freedom Pitcher of the Year/All-Conference First Team honors, as well as ABCA/Rawlings Second Team and d3baseball Third Team All-Region selection. The Brentwood, Tenn. native notched five saves, four coming in conference play, striking out 28 batters in 19.2 innings during the regular season, while allowing 14 hits, with just one of those going for extra bases. During a stretch of 10 appearances from early March to early April, Finch went 13 innings without allowing an earned run, striking out 20 while yielding just eight hits. Finch's year ended with a career-high six strikeouts against Arcadia in the MAC Freedom Championship Series, allowing just one run and three hits in 3.1 innings of work.
The Academic All-MAC teams are based off semester grade-point averages (GPA) for the semester of their championship season. The minimum GPA required is a 3.20, and the student-athlete must remain an eligible member of the team through the conclusion of the season. Voting for this award is based on 50% academic excellence and 50% athletic prowess.
Finch and Somers are the first baseball duo selected Academic All-MAC in the same season since the school joined the conference prior to the 2019-20 season.
