Hoboken, N.J. – Stevens Institute of Technology head men's basketball coach
Bobby Hurley announced Tuesday the hiring of Oliver Ortman as an assistant coach for the Ducks.
"I'm thrilled to add Oliver to our coaching staff," Hurley said. "He's a tireless worker with great passion for the game, and his background as a former player in the MAC Freedom gives him a unique insight into what our guys face every night. That knowledge, combined with his ability to recruit and develop players, will help push our program to new heights."
Ortman arrives on Castle Point after spending the past two seasons on staff at The College of New Jersey, where the Lions posted identical 20-9 records. TCNJ captured the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championship in 2023-24 and earned an at-large berth to the NCAA Tournament in 2024-25.
"I'm beyond excited to join the Stevens men's basketball program and athletic community," Ortman expressed. "Thank you to Coach Hurley and staff for the opportunity. Stevens is a special place on and off the court. I'm ready to get to work!"
Before his time at TCNJ, Ortman served as an assistant coach at Drew University, helping guide the Rangers to an 18-9 record and a trip to the Landmark Conference championship game in 2022.
Prior to entering the coaching ranks, Ortman enjoyed an outstanding playing career as a guard at FDU-Florham. A three-time captain and three-time team MVP, he earned Second Team All-MAC recognition as a senior and graduated as the program's 14th all-time leading scorer with 1,181 points. He also holds school records for career (201) and single-season (76) 3-pointers.
Away from the sidelines, Ortman served as a student ambassador for the Team IMPACT program, mentoring a child with a chronic physical condition. He has also been a coach and camp counselor with the New Jersey Basketball Academy since 2016 and coached with the NJ Panthers AAU program during the 2023 spring and summer seasons.
A five-time Dean's List honoree and three-time Academic All-MAC selection, Ortman earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees in sports administration from FDU.
