Washington, D.C. – The Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team fell in its finale at the Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy Jamboree on Sunday, dropping a 12-1 decision to No. 9/10 Salve Regina.
Chip Krese drove in the lone run for Stevens (4-4) in the setback.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Seahawks wasted little time, scoring three times in the first inning and tacking on two more in the second.
Vinnie Stigliano entered in relief in the second and limited the damage over the second and third innings, but Stevens still trailed 5-0 after two-and-a-half frames.
The Ducks got on the board in the third for their lone run of the game.
Tyler Wilke led off with a single, and after a walk to
Jackson Wein, the runners advanced 90 feet on a sacrifice bunt by
Jason Wu. Krese then delivered a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Wilke.
The Seahawks padded their advantage in the fourth with two runs before adding two more in the sixth. They capped off the scoring in the seventh, pushing across two runs on two hits.
Alex Santora tallied a one-out single in the ninth, but was stranded as the final two hitters struck out.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Carrier tossed an inning of scoreless relief, recording one strikeout and allowing one walk.
Yuvan Anthony and
Connor McLachlan made their collegiate debuts, each tossing two-thirds of an inning.
Stigliano threw 1 2/3 hitless innings of relief, allowing just two baserunners.
Santora recorded his first collegiate hit in the ninth inning.
