HOBOKEN, N.J. - Freshman outside hitter Chris Bock (Orlando, Fla./University) had 14 kills and 11 digs to lead 14th-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology to 3-0 win (30-25, 30-26, 30-22) over New Jersey City University on Wednesday in a men's volleyball match at the Canavan Arena.

The match was the North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) opener for both teams.  Stevens (1-5) earned its first win after dropping three matches in California and then falling to New York University and Division I Sacred Heart on January 22.  Three of the Ducks losses have come against teams ranked in the top-five in Division III.  The match was the season opener for New Jersey City.

With the score tied at 7-7 in the first game, Stevens scored six straight points to take control.  Junior setter Gerard Aro (Jersey City, N.J./St. Peter's Prep) served five straight points with senior Scott Mooney (Glendora, Calif./Glendora), freshman David Byrne (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) and Bock each picking up a kill during the streak.

New Jersey City, which led for much of the second game, held a 22-19 advantage before Stevens rallied with five of the next six points.  Byrne had two of the five points on kills.  Freshman middle hitter Greg Higgins (Kenmore, N.Y./Kenmore West) had consecutive kills with the score tied at 24-24 to put the Ducks ahead to stay.

Stevens never trailed in the final game.  With the Ducks maintaining a slim 12-11 lead, Bock had three kills and a block assist as Stevens used an 8-2 run to open up a seven-point lead.

Higgins finished with 13 kills and three aces while sophomore Brian Woodworth (San Jose, Calif./Bellarmine Prep) had nine kills and nine digs while playing only the first two games.

New Jersey City received 10 kills and 12 digs from senior Chris Feliciano.  Sophomore Jean Sanchez had seven kills and 10 digs.
