Quick Start Leads Mount St. Mary to 84-74 Men's Basketball Victory Over Stevens

NEWBURGH, N.Y. - Freshman guard Keith Letendre scored 22 points and junior guard Brendan Twomey added 18 points to lead Mount St. Mary College to an 84-74 win over Stevens Institute of Technology on Monday in a Skyline Conference men's basketball game.

Mount St. Mary improves to 14-2 overall and 8-1 in the Skyline Conference.  Stevens, which had won two straight and three of its last four, falls to 3-14 overall and 3-7 in the league.

The Blue Knights never trailed in the game.  After Stevens senior Eric Stanley (New York, N.Y./Solebury Prep) tied the game at 2-2 in the opening minute, Mount St. Mary used an 11-0 run over the next five minutes to open up a 13-2 lead.  Sophomore forward Kenny Lane scored the first five points while Twomey contributed five during the run.  Stanley scored the Ducks' next two baskets as Stevens trailed 15-6 with 13:48 left in the half.  Letendre came off the bench and scored seven quick points as Mount St. Mary extended its lead to 27-6 at the 11:31 mark.  The Blue Knights, who shot 61.8 percent (21-for-34) in the first half, led by as many as 27 points before settling for a 55-31 halftime lead.

Stevens limited Mount St. Mary to just 37.5 percent shooting in the second half.  The Ducks used a late 18-3 run to trim the final margin to 10 points.  Stanley and freshman guard Floyd Morris (East Windsor, N.J./Peddie School) scored 15 points each to lead the Ducks.  Morris, who scored 13 points in the second half, also added six assists.  Junior forward Jordan Clark (Hopewell, Ohio/West Muskingum) was the third Stevens player in double figures, finishing with 11 points.  Freshman guard Ryan Lynch (Medford, N.J./St. Joseph's Prep) scored nine points - all in the second half.

Stevens returns to action on Wednesday, January 29, with a 7 p.m. game at Baruch College.
