Men's Swimming Drops 114-76 Decision to New York Maritime

HOBOKEN, N.J. - Sophomore Joe Van Kirk (Stockholm, N.J./Wallkill Valley) and freshmen Vadim Gordin (Monroe, N.J./Ocean Township) and Eugene Kocherov (Edison, N.J./Edison) earned individual victories, but the Stevens Institute of Technology men's swimming team fell to visiting New York Maritime, 114-76, in a dual meet on Tuesday.

Gordin captured the 200-yard freestyle with a winning time of 2:04.79, cruising to victory by nearly 13 seconds. Van Kirk finished first in the 100-yard freestyle (55.04), winning by three seconds over the second-place finisher.  Kocherov earned a victory in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:50.52.

Sophomore Joe Jacobus (Montville, N.J./Montville Township) turned in a strong swim in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:49.68.  Other second-place finishers for the Ducks included Van Kirk in the 50-free (24.02), Gordin in the 200-back (2:16.65) and sophomore Eugene Nor (West Paterson, N.J./Clifton) in the 500-free (6:34.78).

The Stevens men's swimming team is next in action at the Vassar Invitational on Saturday, February 8.
