Ethan Emerton of the Stevens Institute of Technology men's swim team notched a victory in the 400-IM to highlight top performances during day two of the Middle Atlantic Conference Swimming Championships on Friday.
Through two days, Stevens sits in first place with 856 points, while York is second with 740.5. Misericordia holds third with 505 points, as Widener (422.5) and Arcadia (419) round out the top five.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Emerton led a trio of Ducks that qualified for the A finals in the 400-IM. After registering the top time during the preliminary round, Emerton turned in a finals time of 4:08.48, besting York's Colin McLallen by eight seconds.
Will Hyde earned a podium finish, taking third in 4:18.06, while
James Johnson rounded out the A finalists with a fourth-place finish in 4:22.41.
Stevens' top relay squad captured first place in the 200-freestyle relay, as
Leo Timmermann,
Gailen Davis, Sebastien Nappi, and
Will Stibor combined for a winning time of 1:24.64.
Deo Bove recorded a second-place finish in the 100-butterfly, clocking in at 51.18. He outlasted York's Alex Daniele by .48 seconds to earn the silver medal. Davis also qualified for the A finals in the event, placing seventh in 53.48.
The 400-medley relay team of Emerton,
Lukas Mikulenas, Bove, and Stibor posted a second-place time of 3:25.65, while the quartet of Nappi,
Cooper Moffatt, Davis, and Cortelli finished 14th in 3:34.52. Stibor led three Ducks in the A finals of the 200-freestyle, placing third in 1:44.72. He narrowly out-touched Cortelli (1:44.92) and Nappi (1:44.97).
Kerem Dogruer captured the B finals of the 400-IM with a time of 4:25.15, while
Andrew Gaba placed 18th in 4:33.82.
Kyle Phillips finished 10th in the 100-butterfly (54.36), and
Niall Easton won the B finals of the 200-freestyle in 1:45.37.
Yusuf Tokuz placed 11th in the event, while the 200-freestyle relay team of Easton,
Matthew Beaney, Tokuz, and Phillips finished 13th in 1:28.42.

The MAC Championship continues tomorrow, with preliminary rounds beginning at 9:30 a.m. and finals set for 5:30 p.m. Events on tap include the 200-butterfly, 100-backstroke, 100-breaststroke, and the 800-freestyle relay.
