PURCHASE, N.Y. - John Danielski scored 23 points and pulled down 10 rebounds off the bench to lead Manhattanville College to a 53-46 win over Stevens Institute of Technology on Tuesday in the quarterfinals of the Skyline Conference Men's Basketball Tournament.
Stevens was never able to get its offense going as it shot just 32.2 percent from the floor. For the first time this season, the Ducks were held without a 3-pointer, going 0-for-11 from beyond the arc. Stevens had made at least two 3-pointers in its previous 25 games. The Ducks, who entered the game shooting 70.8 percent from the free throw line as a team, went just 8-for-18 from the stripe.
Senior forward Jon Almonte (North Bergen, N.J./North Bergen) led Stevens with 16 points and also pulled down five rebounds in his final collegiate game. Almonte finished a stellar career with 1,066 points, placing seventh on the Ducks' all-time scoring list.
Fellow senior Eric Stanley (New York, N.Y./Solebury Prep) was saddled with foul trouble for much of the evening as he finished with eight points and just two rebounds. The eight points did push Stanley past former teammate Chris Gavina into second on the school's all-time scoring list. Stanley finished with 1,213 points - three more than Gavina (1,210).
Sophomore forward Dan Jordan (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant) turned in one of his strongest outings of the year, finishing with a season-high 13 points and nine rebounds.
