SCRANTON, Pa. – Junior Kari Munger (Morristown, N.J./Newark Academy) earned victories at first singles and first doubles, but the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s tennis team dropped a 7-2 decision to the University of Scranton on Sunday in the season opener for both squads.
Munger, who had a perfect 16-0 record at first singles as a sophomore, picked up where she left off last season as she cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Maggie Leuzarder of Scranton.
Stevens other victory came at first doubles as Munger teamed with freshman Oksana Magomedova to earn an 8-4 win over Leuzarder and Sheila Broadhead. The match was tied 4-4 before Munger and Magomedova reeled off four straight wins to claim the match.
Stevens will face Manhattanville College on Wednesday, September 3, in a 4 p.m. Skyline Conference match in Purchase, N.Y.
