NEWBURGH, N.Y. – Roberto King scored 22 points as Mount St. Mary College overcame a one-point halftime deficit en route to an 84-75 win over Stevens Institute of Technology on Monday night in a Skyline Conference game at the Kaplan Center.
Stevens (3-16, 2-7 Skyline) held a 33-32 halftime lead as freshman forward Tim Williams (Selden, N.Y./Newfield) scored 14 of his season-high 18 points in the first half. Sophomore guard Jimmy Dominkewicz (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park), who led all scorers with 23 points, buried a 3-pointer with 33 seconds left in the half to put the Ducks on top at the break.
Stevens led 46-43 with 13:52 left following a Williams basket. Mount St. Mary used a 13-4 run in a three-minute span to reclaim the lead. The Blue Knights forced six Stevens turnovers during that stretch with a full-court press. Mount St. Mary took a 56-50 lead on a basket by King with 10:46 left.
The Blue Knights held their largest lead, 74-58, with 5:48 left. Stevens pulled to within 82-75 with eight seconds left. Mount St. Mary forced Stevens into 34 turnovers.
Sophomore forward Michael Collins (Bronx, N.Y./Trinity Pawling) had a double-double for Stevens with 15 points and 11 rebounds. The Ducks leading scorer, sophomore Ryan Kander (Belle Harbor, N.Y./Xaverian) went down with an injury seven minutes into the game and did not return.
Stevens is back in action on Saturday, January 31, with a 6 p.m. Skyline game against SUNY-Old Westbury.
