PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women’s tennis team earned its first Skyline win of the season, defeating St. Joseph's-Patchogue, 9-0 Saturday afternoon. Freshman Jacqueline Carbone (Basking Ridge, N.J.) earned a big win at fifth singles, defeating Cary Nappie 7-6, 6-4 and 7-3 in the tie breaker. With the win, the Ducks improve to 3-3 on the season.
Senior Kari Munger (Morristown, N.J./Newark Academy) defeated Heather Conklin 6-1, 6-0 at first singles to remain unbeaten this season. Freahman Dana Bacalla (Portland, Ore./Westview) also remained undefeated on the season and defeated Colleen Fitzgerald 6-0, 6-0 at second singles. Senior Kathy Martinez (Rockland, N.Y./Ramapo) earned a win in the third singles position after defeating Melissa McDonald 6-3, 6-3. Freshman Ariel Wan (Sayerville, N.J./Sayerville War Memorial) won her first match at fourth singles 6-0 and then completed the victory after the second match was retired 3-0. Carbone played really well at fifth singles and captured the win in a tie breaker 7-3. Sophomore Vandita Shah (Bloomfield, N.J./North Bergen) completed the singles sweep at sixth singles and defeated Jessica McDonald 6-0, 6-3.
Munger and Wan defeated Conklin and Fitzgerald 8-0 in first doubles and teammates Bacalla and Carbone defeated Curtis and Nappie 8-0 at second doubles as well. Martinez and Senior Suzanne Woodrow (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck) ended the day with a 8-4 victory over Bryanne Beirminster and Margie Davy at third doubles.
The Ducks are back in action on Wednesday, October 13 when they travel to Richard Stockton for a 4 p.m. match.
