No. 5 Men's Volleyball cruises to 3-0 win over New Jersey City

Chris Bock had 11 kills and eight digs in just two games.

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Sophomore outside hitter Chris Bock (Orlando, Fla./University) and junior outside hitter Brian Woodworth (San Jose, Calif./Bellarmine Prep) had 11 kills apiece as the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s volleyball team earned a 3-0 (30-15, 30-28, 30-15) win over New Jersey City University on Saturday at the Athletic & Fitness Center.

Stevens, ranked fifth in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III poll, improves to 16-2 overall and 4-0 in the NECVA Metro Division.  New Jersey City drops to 6-7 overall and 2-5 in the conference.

No Stevens player played more than two games with all 14 players seeing action.  Bock and Woodworth posted nearly identical numbers.  Bock had 11 kills and three errors in 20 attempts along with a team-leading eight digs.  Woodworth had 11 kills and three errors in 21 attempts along with seven digs.  Sophomore middle hitter Greg Higgins (Kenmore, N.Y./Kenmore West) hit .500 with seven kills and just one error in 12 attempts.  He also had four block assists.  Freshman middle hitter Scott Stoner (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) had five kills, six digs and three service aces.

Robert Griffiths and Edward Sosa had five kills apiece to lead New Jersey City.

Stevens is back in action on Wednesday, February 18, when it travels to Clarks Summit, Pa., for a 3 p.m. match against Baptist Bible.
