RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Sophomore guard Jimmy Dominkewicz (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) connected on a 3-pointer with 4.0 seconds left to lift Stevens Institute of Technology to a 69-68 win over Mount St. Vincent on Saturday in a Skyline Conference men’s basketball game.
Christopher Renna sank the second of two free throws with 18.3 seconds left as Mount St. Vincent (8-11 overall, 5-7 Skyline) increased its lead to 68-66. Dominkewicz, who finished with a game-high 27 points, then hit a 3-pointer from the right side to give Stevens (5-17, 4-8) a one-point lead. Renna missed a desperation 3-pointer as time expired following a timeout.
Dominkewicz, who scored a season-high 37 points in a 69-62 win over Centenary last Tuesday, is averaging 21.5 points per game over the last eight games.
Neither team led by more than five points in a second half that featured five ties and seven lead changes. Mount St. Vincent held a 30-26 lead at halftime.
Freshman forward Tim Williams (Selden, N.Y./Newfield) scored 20 points and pulled down 10 rebounds off the bench for Stevens. Junior forward Dan Jordan (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant) had 14 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. As a team, Stevens out-rebounded Mount St. Vincent 42-31.
James Mooney led Mount St. Vincent with 17 points while Greg Casey scored 13 points off the bench.
Stevens is back in action on Wednesday, February 11, when it plays a 7 p.m. game at Farmingdale State.
