Dominkewicz, Jordan lead Men's Basketball to 67-55 win over Old Westbury

Senior Dan Jordan scored a season-high 11 points and pulled down a game-high six rebounds to lead the Ducks past Old Westbury.

HOBOKEN, N.J. – Junior guard Jimmy Dominkewicz (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) came off the bench to score 14 points – 12 in the second half – to lead Stevens Institute of Technology to a 67-55 win over SUNY-Old Westbury on Saturday afternoon in a Skyline Conference game at the Canavan Arena.

Stevens earned its fifth in its last seven games, evening its record at 9-9 overall.  The Ducks are also 5-3 in Skyline Conference play.  Old Westbury falls to 7-12 overall and 4-5 in the conference.

Old Westbury took an early 9-6 lead following a 3-pointer by sophomore Roman Pettway with 16:09 left in the first half.  Stevens countered with eight straight points over the next 2:30 to open up a five-point lead.  A conventional three-point play by freshman forward Joseph Ayodele (Tempe, Ariz./Marcos de Niza) put the Ducks ahead to stay, 11-9 with 14:23 left in the half.  Junior guard Ryan Kander (Belle Harbor, N.Y./Xaverian) followed with a 3-pointer, increasing the lead to 14-9.

Leading 29-26 at halftime, Stevens opened the second half with nine straight points in the first 2:14 to open up a double-digit lead.  Senior forward Dan Jordan (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant Boro) scored four of his season-high 11 points during that stretch.  The Ducks extended their lead to as many as 15 points in the second half.

Stevens shot 48.9 percent (22-for-45) and held a commanding 33-23 rebounding advantage.  The Ducks also held a 34-17 advantage in bench scoring.  Stevens had four players finish in double figures.  In addition to Dominkewicz and Jordan, freshman guard Waleed Farid (Woodside, N.Y./Stuyvesant) and sophomore forward Tim Williams (Selden, N.Y./Newfield) scored 10 points apiece.  Jordan also pulled down a game-high six rebounds while Farid recorded a season-high five assists.

Junior forward Jared Weir led Old Westbury with 14 points while junior guard Russell Brereton added 12 and senior forward Sal Clark contributed 10.
