HOBOKEN, N.J. – Freshman Anthony Barrilli (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) won three races as the Stevens men’s swimming team cruised to a 108-89 victory over Maritime on Saturday afternoon at the DeBaun Aquatic Center. The Ducks won all 10 events on the day.
With the win, the men improve to 5-5 on the season.
Barrilli took home first-place finishes in the 1,650-yard freestyle, 400-yard individual medley and the 500-yard freestyle. Juniors Andy Martz (Bloomingburg, N.Y./Pine Bush), and Vadim Gordin (Monroe, N.J./Ocean Township) both took home first-place finishes in two events. Martz earned his first win in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.34 and then captured the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 49.20. Gordon earned a top finish in the 200-yard freestyle and the 200-yard backstroke. Martz and Gordin along with freshman Marc DeLese (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) and senior Joe Van Kirk (Stockholm, N.J./Wallkill Valley Regional) set the pace for the Ducks with a win in the first event of the day, the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:47.92. Delese won the 200-yard breaststroke and set the pool and school record with a time of 2:27.94. Van Kirk took home a victory in the 200-yard butterfly and finished second in the 200-yard breaststroke.
The Stevens men’s and women’s swimming squads return to action on Wednesday, February 2 when they travel to Kings Point for a 6 p.m. meet.
