New York, N.Y. (November 18, 2005) – Senior Isaac Moore (Phoenix, Ariz.) and sophomore Waleed Farid (Woodside, N.Y.) scored 15 points apiece, but it was not enough as the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s basketball team suffered a 72-68 season-opening loss in overtime to the City College of New York at the Nat Holman Gymnasium in New York, N.Y. Junior Tim Williams (Selden, N.Y.) was 4-for-4 from the floor and connected on all four of his free-throw attempts for a total of 12 points.
CCNY (1-0) was led by junior Narada Watt (Bronx, N.Y.), who scored a game-high 26 points. Tied at 63-63 heading into overtime, the Beavers outscored Stevens 9-5 in the first extra session to pull out the victory. Despite forcing 27 turnovers and holding CCNY to 33.9 percent shooting from the floor, the Ducks were done in by their own sloppy play as Stevens committed 32 turnovers. The Beavers also owned a decided advantage at the charity stripe as they connected on 25 out of 37 attempts. Stevens was 15-for-26 at the line in the game.
Senior Ryan Kander (Belle Harbor, N.Y.) led the Ducks with six rebounds. Junior Floyd Morris (East Windsor, N.Y.) paced the Ducks with four assists.
Stevens will play its home-opener on Tuesday at 7 p.m. when the Ducks host FDU-Florham.
