Waleed Farid scored a game-high 17 as the Ducks topped Yeshiva, 73-57.

NEW YORK, N.Y. (November 28, 2005) – Sophomore Waleed Farid (Woodside, N.Y.) scored a game-high 17 points on 3-for-4 shooting from downtown in leading the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s basketball team to an important early-season 73-57 win over Skyline Conference rival Yeshiva University on Monday evening at the Max Stern Athletic Center in New York, N.Y.  In the process, the Ducks (2-1, 1-0 Skyline) earned their first-ever road victory over the Maccabees (1-3, 0-1) since joining the conference in 1999-2000.

After leading by as many as 17 points in the first half, Stevens went into intermission with a 36-28 advantage.  Yeshiva trimmed the Ducks’ lead to three points in the opening five minutes of the second half, but freshman Damien Palantino (Philadelphia, Pa.) knocked down a key three-pointer to spark a decisive run by the Ducks to put the game out of reach.  Palantino finished 11 points on 3-for-5 shooting from behind the arc.

Junior Tim Williams (Selden, N.Y.) posted a double-double (14 points, 10 rebounds) despite being limited to 19 minutes of playing time due to foul trouble.  Freshman Virgil Gray (Elmwood Park, N.J.) added 10 points for the Ducks.  Junior Floyd Morris (East Windsor, N.J.) chipped in with seven assists and did not turn the ball over.

Stevens limited the Maccabees to 30.4 percent shooting from the floor in the game.  The Ducks also forced 17 turnovers by Yeshiva, which was led by junior Harel Vatavu’s (Ramat-Gan, Israel) 13 points.

The Ducks will be back in action on Wednesday when they host the College of Staten Island at Canavan Arena at 7 p.m.
