Men's Volleyball remains unbeaten in NECVA Metro play with 3-0 win over New Jersey City

JERSEY CITY, N.J. - Junior outside hitter Chris Bock (Empangeri, South Africa/University-Fla.) had 12 kills and 10 digs in just two games as the fourth-ranked Stevens men's volleyball team earned a 3-0 (33-31, 32-30, 30-22) win over New Jersey City University on Wednesday night in a NECVA Metro Division men's volleyball match.

Stevens, tied for fourth in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III coaches poll, improved to 13-6 overall and 5-0 in NECVA Metro play.  New Jersey City falls to 11-8 overall and 2-4 in the conference.

The Stevens starters edged New Jersey City in two close games before the reserves cruised to victory in the third game, clinching the match.

Bock hit .391 (12 kills, 3 errors, 23 attempts) while playing only the first two games.  Sophomore middle hitter Scott Stoner (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh), the only Stevens player to play in all three games, hit an impressive .533 with nine kills and just one error in 15 attempts.  Senior Brian Woodworth (San Jose, Calif./Bellarmine Prep) and sophomore Shane Pierson (Newbury Park, Calif./Newbury Park) also finished with nine kills apiece.

Senior middle hitter Christian Latoja (Jersey City, N.J./St. Peter's Prep), filling in for injured starter Will Foley, had seven kills in nine attempts (.778).  Freshman setter Steve Strollo (Nesconset, N.Y./Smithtown) had 33 assists while playing in the first two games.

The Ducks are back in action on Saturday, Feb. 26, when they participate in a NECVA Metro tri-match at Ramapo with Polytechnic.
