Men's Volleyball crushes Baruch, 3-0

HOBOKEN, N.J. - Sophomore outside hitter Shane Pierson (Newbury Park, Calif./Newbury Park) had 10 kills and senior outside hitter Brian Woodworth (San Jose, Calif./Bellarmine Prep) had eight kills in 12 attempts to lead the fourth-ranked Stevens men's volleyball team to a 3-0 (30-11, 30-19, 30-22) win over Baruch on Wednesday night at the Canavan Arena.

Stevens, ranked fourth in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III coaches poll, improves to 16-6 with its fourth straight win and 13th win in 15 matches.  Baruch falls to 7-8.

Stevens was never threatened in the opening game.  Sophomore Will Foley (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) served six straight points as the Ducks quickly opened up a 14-5 lead.  Stevens hit .400 in the opening game (13-3-25) and had seven total team blocks, forcing Baruch into 12 errors.  The Bearcats hit -.370 (2-12-27) in the opening game.

No Stevens starter played more than two games.  Junior outside hitter Chris Bock (Empangeri, South Africa/University-Fla.) had five kills, two service aces and a team-leading seven digs.  Junior outside hitter Greg Higgins (Kenmore, N.Y./Kenmore West) had seven kills and five digs.

Twelve different players had kills for the Ducks.  Sophomore middle hitter Scott Stoner (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) had five kills in seven attempts along with four total blocks.  Freshman setter Steve Strollo (Nesconset, N.Y./Smithtown) had 23 assists in two games.

Stevens returns to action on Saturday, March 5, when it hosts Mount Saint Vincent in a NECVA Metro Division match beginning at 1 p.m.
