Tim Williams collected 16 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Ducks.

HOBOKEN, N.J. (January 16, 2006) – With his team leading 35-29 with 18:30 remaining in the second half, junior forward Tim Williams (Selden, N.Y.) scored three straight baskets to spark a 12-0 run in the span of three minutes as the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s basketball team pulled away from the College of Mount Saint Vincent to claim a 76-59 Skyline Conference victory on Monday evening at Canavan Arena in Hoboken, N.J.  Williams connected on seven of 11 shots in the game and finished with a double-double (16 points, 10 rebounds) as the Ducks won their third straight contest to improve to 8-5 on the year (3-1 Skyline).

After opening an 18-point lead, Stevens continued to apply pressure to the depleted Dolphins (6-11, 3-6 Skyline) and pushed the margin to 58-35 with 10 minutes to play.  Mount Saint Vincent was playing without three starters, including the Skyline’s second-leading scorer in senior guard James Mooney (Bronx, N.Y.).  The Dolphins were also without their second-leading scorer in senior forward Greg Casey (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) and their leading rebounder in senior guard Charles Hernandez (Bronx, N.Y.).

Freshman guard Virgil Gray II (Elmwood Park, N.J.), who was named the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week earlier today, tallied 12 points on 4-for-8 shooting from the floor for Stevens.  Senior guard Isaac Moore (Phoenix, Ariz.) added 10 points on 4-for-7 shooting.  Moore made both of his three-point attempts in the game.  Freshman Damien Palantino (Philadelphia, Pa.) came off the bench to drain three of six shots from downtown for nine points.

Neither team was able to take control in the early portion of the game as the Dolphins held a one-point lead (15-14) midway through the first half.  Stevens went on a quick 14-0 run in the span of 4:40 to take a 28-15 lead.  Williams sparked the Ducks once again with four straight hoops as Stevens scored all seven of its baskets during the run on lay-ups.

Mount Saint Vincent responded with a 6-0 run of its own to climb within seven points.  Freshman forward Charlie Britz (Armonk, N.Y.) knocked down a jumper to begin the burst for the Dolphins.  Stevens went into the half with a 34-27 lead.

Freshman guard Tim Biolsi (Bronx, N.Y.) was 7-for-7 at the line and scored a game-high 17 points for Mount Saint Vincent.  Sophomore guard Derek Charlton (Yonkers, N.Y.) registered a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.  Junior guard/forward Jarrett Herche (Bronx, N.Y.) added 10 points.

Stevens out-rebounded Mount Saint Vincent 51-31 in the game.  The Ducks also held the Dolphins to 37.1 percent shooting from the floor.

Stevens will be back in action on Wednesday when the Ducks travel to Purchase, N.Y., to take on Manhattanville College in a key Skyline game beginning at 7 p.m.
