Martz Breaks Two Pool Records as Men’s Swimming Cruises Past Maritime

HOBOKEN, N.J. (January 27, 2006) – Senior Andy Martz (Bloomingburg, N.Y.) set a new pool record in the 50 and 100-yard freestyle events as the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s swim team defeated Maritime College, 105-78, Friday night at the DeBaun Aquatic Center.  The Ducks earned wins in seven of 11 events and move to 5-5 overall this season with the win.

Martz swam to first-place finishes in the 50 and 100-yard freestyle events with times of 22.18 and 49.01.  Senior Dan Lichty (East Stroudsberg, Pa.) finished first and set a new pool record in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:01.29.  Lichty also earned a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:00.00.  Sophomore Marc DeLese (Staten Island, N.Y.) brought home first-place finishes in the 200-yard IM (2:15.31) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:30.69). 

The men’s 200 freestyle relay team of DeLese, sophomore Ben Shapiro (Marlton, N.J.), Martz and Lichty also set a new pool record and took first-place with a time of 1:33.76.

Both teams are back in action on Tuesday, January 31 when they host Adelphi University at 7 p.m.
