DALLAS, Pa (November 4, 2006) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men’s and women’s swimming teams competed against College Misericordia on Saturday afternoon. The men pulled out a close 96-93 victory, but the women dropped a 112-79 decision. With the win, the men improved to 2-1 on the season, while the women fell to 0-3 this year.
The men earned wins in five events with senior Vadim Gordin (Ocean Township, N.J.) leading the way. Gordon earned wins in the 200-yard backstroke and 200-yard freestyle with times of 2:07.25 and 1:56.73, respectively. Gordin was also part of the 400-medley team along with freshmen Steven Crouch (Huntsville, Ala.), Brenx Cox (Las Vegas, Nev.) and junior Mark DeLese (Staten Island, N.Y.). The four-some finished with a time of 3:58.31. Crouch also placed first in two events, finishing with a time of 25.04 in the 50-yard freestyle and sealing the win with a victory in the 200-yard breaststroke.
The women were led by senior Lorrie Brabender (Newark, Del.), who broke a pool record in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:19.62. Sophomore Emily Woo (Lodi, Calif.) earned two victories in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:20.17 and the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:39.02. Sophomore Nicole Ogrosso (Staten Island, N.Y.) also picked up a win in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:59.93.
The Stevens swimming teams are back in action Saturday, November 11 when they host Mount Saint Mary College at 1 p.m.
