Strong Offensive Performances from Dudek and Webber Push Women's Basketball Past FDU-Florham, 80-67

MADISON, N.J. (November 20, 2007) – Junior guard Dani Dudek notched a double-double on Tuesday night with 11 points and a game-high 13 rebounds as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team defeated Fairleigh Dickinson University by an 80-67 count in Madison, N.J. Stevens also received a strong offensive showing from freshman forward/guard Victoria Webber,  who notched a game-high 23 points while grabbing eight rebounds. With the decision, the Ducks and Devils both sport identical records of 2-1.

After being up 32-31 at the half, Stevens fell behind by a point on a jumper by FDU sophomore forward Courtney Young (Bayonne, N.J.) with 19:41 remaining. The Ducks responded with a 9-1 run in the next two minutes. Sophomore forward Brittany Fuller sparked the streak with a trifecta. Webber capped it off with a three-ball of her own at 17:21. With 12:20 remaining in the game, the Devils got within four at 51-47 off the only made three-pointer of the contest by junior guard Emily Cerankowski (Easton, Pa.), who shot 5-for-30 from the field and 1-for-10 from beyond the arc.

The Ducks came back with a 7-0 run in a span of 45 seconds. Senior forward Dora Enright began the stretch on a jumper. Webber followed that up with a three, and Dudek capped it off with a lay-up, which put the visitors up 58-47 with 10:18 remaining. Stevens led by as many as 14 points at one juncture. With just under four minutes to go, Fairleigh Dickinson got within eight points on a basket by freshman forward Shealyn Taggart (Atlantic Highlands, N.J.). However, the Ducks were able to maintain their lead down the stretch as sophomore guard Sarah Gehring and Dudek made three free throws apiece in the final 1:19.

As a team, Stevens shot 44.1 percent (26 of 59) from the field while FDU was held to just a 33.8 percent (22 of 65) field-goal percentage. The Ducks also scored 10 of their points off turnovers, 24 in the paint and 37 off the bench.

Young registered a double-double on the evening with 22 points and 11 rebounds on 9-for-13 shooting. Cerankowski added 13 points and four rebounds. Taggart finished with 12 points, seven rebounds and three assists.

Head Coach Jon Hochberg and the Ducks return to the court next Tuesday when they come back to Canavan Arena to play host to Vassar College. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.
