WASHINGTON, Pa. (November 7, 2007) – Freshman forward Allison Basile recorded the game-winning tally with less than six minutes remaining in the second half on Wednesday afternoon at Cameron Stadium in Washington, Pa., as the Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team advanced to the semifinals of the ECAC Division III Mid-Atlantic Championship with a 1-0 win against Washington and Jefferson College. With the win, the Ducks moved to 13-6 on the season while the Presidents fell to 15-5 overall.
On the play, Basile deflected a shot by junior midfielder Allison Shields into the back of the cage to give Stevens the victory. Junior goaltender Stephanie Smith made a game-high five saves for the Ducks while sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Rund (Columbus, Ohio) turned aside four shots for the Presidents. W&J held a 12-7 advantage in shots and an 8-6 edge in penalty corners.
Head Coach Jessica Reed and her squad return to action this Saturday when they play the winner of the match-up between second-seeded Nazareth College and seventh-seeded FDU-Florham in the semifinal round of the ECAC Tournament. No scheduled time has been announced yet for the contest.
