Women's Basketball Closes Out 2007 With 76-65 Loss to No. 5 NYU

NEW YORK, N.Y. (December 30, 2007) – Senior forward Dora Enright poured in a team-high 19 points on Sunday evening but it wasn't enough as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team fell to fifth-ranked New York University by a 76-65 count at the Jerome S. Coles Sports Center in New York, N.Y. With the loss, the Ducks dropped to 7-3 on the year, while the Violets extended its unbeaten record to 8-0.

Enright was 7-for-18 from the field and a perfect 5-for-5 from the free-throw line. Junior guard Dani Dudek  accumulated 14 points, six rebounds and five assists. Sophomore forward Brittany Fuller added nine points, five rebounds and two steals. As a team, Stevens shot 36.2 percent (25-for-69) from the floor and 100.0 percent (8-for-8) from the charity stripe.

NYU received strong performances off the bench from freshmen guards Chelsea Blake (Hamden, Conn.) and Bianca Storts (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.). Blake dropped a game-high 21 points on the night. She was 6-of-9 from the field, 2-of-2 from three-point range and 7-of-7 from the foul line. Storts amassed a total of 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting and junior co-captain and forward Jessica McEntee (Flushing, N.Y.) posted a double-double showing (19 points, 16 rebounds). The Violets recorded a field-goal percentage of 43.9 (25-for-57) and a free-throw percentage of 88.0 (22-for-25).

After trailing 38-35 at the break, the Ducks started the second half with a 5-2 run in the first 3:05 to knot the game up at 40-40. Freshman center/forward Paige Armstrong  began the streak with a lay-up and Fuller ended it with one of her three trifectas in the contest. After that, NYU proceeded to out-score Stevens 21-6 in the following six minutes to take hold of a 15-point advantage (61-46) with just over nine minutes left. The lead proved to be the Violets' largest of the game and put the game away for good.

During that time, NYU went on a 16-4 run in a period of 3:32. The duet of McEntee and Storts combined for 10 points in the burst. Senior guard Chelsea Trout (Thurmont, Md.) and junior forward/center Megan Fox (Skillman, N.J.) also put in a jumper each.

Head Coach Jon Hochberg and the Ducks return to action this Friday when they begin a three-game road trip in Rochester, N.Y. at Empire 8 foe RIT. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
