JERSEY CITY, N.J. (February 13, 2007) – Sophomore outside hitter/setter Joe Trinsey (Wilmington, Del.) led the sixth ranked Stevens Institute of Technology men’s volleyball past New Jersey City University, (30-26, 30-25, 30-25) on Tuesday evening. Trinsey totaled 15 kills, one ace and three blocks for the Ducks in three games. With the win, Stevens improved to 14-5 overall and 3-0 in the conference.
Senior outside hitter Sean Whelan (Springfield, Mass.) was second on the team with nine kills, two aces and two blocks. Senior middle/outside hitter Scott Stoner (Wantagh, N.Y.) led Stevens with 12 digs and tallied eight kills, three aces and four blocks. Senior outside hitter/libero Brian Carlson (West Seneca, N.Y.) was second on the team with 10 digs on the night. Setter/outside hitter Michael Schulte (San Bernardino, Calif.) tallied 45 assists as the leading setter for Stevens.
For NJCU, sophomore outside hitter Thiago Sigueira (Newark, N.J.) led the team with 15 kills and one ace. Senior opposite hitter Robert Griffiths (Edison, N.J.) added eight kills and nine digs. Senior setter Maurice Washington (Orlando, Fla.) chipped in with 32 assists.
Stevens will be back in action on Friday when it hosts No. 14 SUNY New Paltz at 7 p.m. That match will be carried live at www.duckcast.com.
