KINGS POINT, N.Y. (February 3, 2007) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's swim team picked up its third victory of the season over the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, 117-112, on Saturday afternoon. The women won nine events on the day and were led by sophomore Emily Woo who placed first in three events. The men dropped a 110-84 decision to the Mariners and had two individuals place first in their events.
Woo helped lead the 200-yard medley relay team to a first-place finish along with top finishes in the 200-yard freestyle and the 200-yard individual medley. Senior Lorrie Brabender, sophomore Nicole Ogrosso and freshman Stephanie Miller each won two events apiece for the Ducks. Brabender earned top honors in the 50-yard and 100-yard backstroke events, while Miller finished first in the 100-yard breaststroke and 100-yard butterfly. Miller also finished third in the 200-yard freestyle. Ogrosso dominated the competition in the 1,000-yard and 500-yard freestyle and earned a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle.
For the men, senior Vadim Gordin earned a top finish in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:18.56. Freshman Kevin Kim earned a first-place finish for the Ducks in the 100-yard backstroke. Kim also placed second in the 200 IM.
The swimming teams are back in action on February 16 when they compete in the Metropolitan Championships.
