Men’s Volleyball Rolls Past Division I Sacred Heart

Senior Will Foley registered 13 kills and five blocks as Stevens defeated Sacred Heart.

FAIRFIELD, CONN. (February 4, 2007) – Sophomore outside hitter Tomas Bochicchio (Saint James, N.Y.) had a game high 19 kills and hit .533 and senior middle/outside hitter Scott Stoner (Wantagh, N.Y.) added nine kills and 13 digs to lead Stevens Institute of Technology past Sacred Heart University in men’s volleyball action Sunday afternoon at the Pitt Center. The Ducks took the match by scores of 28-30, 30-27, 30-20 and 30-20.

The Ducks hit a fantastic .339 for the match, sparked by 57assists from senior setter/outside hitter Michael Schulte (San Bernardino, Calif.).  Senior middle hitter Will Foley (Clifton Park, N.Y.)  had 13 kills and five blocks, while sophomore outside hitter/setter Joe Trinsey (Wilmington, Del.)  registered 10 kills and three blocks. Sophomore middle hitter Andrew Cranford (Bel Air, Md.), who had eight kills in the last two games, finished the match with 11 along with four blocks.  Senior outside hitter/libero Brian Carlson (West Seneca, N.Y.) led the team with 14 digs. 

Junior Chris Yantz (Setuaket, N.Y.) led the Pioneers with 13 kills. Senior Mike Ivers (Philadelphia, Pa.) registered 11 kills, while sophomore Barry Smith (Shelton, Conn.) totaled 10 kills and had five blocks.

Stevens will be back in action on Wednesday when the Ducks travel to New York to face No. 6 New York University at 7 p.m.
