NYU Outlasts Stevens in Men’s Volleyball Action

Sophomore Andrew Cranford had seven kills and hit .286 in five games for Stevens.

NEW YORK, N.Y. (February 7, 2007) – Sophomore outside hitter Tomas Bochicchio (Saint James, N.Y.) had a match high 20 kills and hit .607 in four games, but No. 4 Stevens Institute of Technology was defeated by No. 6 New York University in men’s volleyball action Wednesday evening. The Ducks earned the first two wins of the night, 30-18 and 30-23, but the Violets fought back to earn victories in the final three games to earn the win (30-28, 30-28, 15-10).  With the loss, Stevens dropped to 13-4 overall for the year, while NYU moved to 5-8 with the win.

Senior middle/outside hitter Scott Stoner (Wantagh, N.Y.) was second on the team with 11 kills and nine digs.   Senior middle hitter Will Foley (Clifton Park, N.Y.) and sophomore outside hitter/setter Joe Trinsey (Wilmington, Del.) each contributed 10 kills apiece.  Foley added five digs and nine blocks, while Trinsey registered four digs.  Senior outside hitter/libero Brian Carlson (West Seneca, N.Y.) led the team with 10 digs on the night.  Setter/outside hitter Michael Schulte (San Bernardino, Calif.) tallied 58 assists and three blocks as the leading setter for Stevens.

Senior opposite hitter Macnair Sillick (Fairport, N.Y.) led the Violets with 15 kills.  Junior outside hitter/libero David Tener (Merrick, N.Y.) led the squad with 15 digs and freshman setter Brendon Fujikawa (Santa Monica, Calif.) was the teams leading setter with 39 assists.

Stevens will be back in action on Saturday when it travels to Huntington, Pa. to face No. 1 Juniata College at 2:30 p.m.
