MADISON, N.J. (September 15, 2007) – Junior midfielder Jeremy Lippel opened up the contest with a pair of goals from senior defenseman Sean Bliss on Saturday afternoon at Robert T. Shields Field as the fifth-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team rolled to a 5-0 win against Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison, N.J. With the win, the Ducks improved to 4-0-2 on the year, while the Devils drop to an overall record of 2-3.
Stevens, which out-shot FDU by a 15-3 count, opened up the scoring with 10 seconds left in the first half when Lippel and Bliss teamed up for their first of two scores on the day. One minute into the latter period, Bliss found Lippel once again to make the score 2-0.
In the 51st-minute, the Ducks grabbed a 3-0 advantage when senior forward Mike Kaiser kicked a ball past Devils' senior goalkeeper Jared Drucker (Morristown, N.J.). Shortly thereafter, sophomore defenseman Josh Williams added to the lead when he scored off a feed from freshman forward Ian McIntyre. Then, in the 86th-minute, junior forward Erick Muse capped off the scoring when he tallied a goal on an unassisted effort.
Drucker and sophomore Steve O'Neill (Hopewell, N.J.) accumulated a total of four saves for FDU, while Stevens' freshman keepers Zach Carr and Sam Callari each recorded time in net to combine for the shutout. The Ducks held a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.
Head Coach Tim O'Donohue and his team return home this Thursday to host Arcadia University at the De Baun Athletic Complex. Kick-off is slated for 8 p.m. and all of the action will be carried live at www.Empire8.tv.
