Wilson Wins Three Events as Men's Swimming Defeats Montclair State, 126.5-73.5

HOBOKEN, N.J. (January 12, 2008) – On Saturday, freshman Evan Wilson came in first place in the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:58.87), 200-yard individual medley (1:59.33) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:14.64) to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology men's swimming team past Montclair State University, 126.5-73.5, at the De Baun Aquatic Center in Hoboken, N.J. With the victory, the Ducks jumped to 3-0 overall, while the Red Hawks fell to 4-5.

Stevens also received a strong showing on the men's side from freshman Nicholas Walulik. Walulik registered top finishes in the 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard backstroke with clockings of 1:50.43 and 2:04.08, respectively. Freshman Thomas Takahashi grabbed first-place points in the 200-yard butterfly (2:01.61), while junior Anthony Barrilli won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:10.15.

Montclair State was headed up by the performance of freshman Blaise Lacca (Sewell, N.J.). Lacca earned a first-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a mark of 23.36 before taking second-place accolades in the 100-yard freestyle with a 52.31 clocking.

Head Coach Trevor Miele and his squad return to the pool this Wednesday when they travel up the New York State Thruway to take on SUNY New Paltz. The first event is scheduled to get underway at 4:30 p.m.
