Men's Swimming Falls to Power TCNJ, 153-106

EWING, N.J. (October 26, 2008) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's swimming team fell to The College of New Jersey 153-106 on Sunday afternoon in Ewing, N.J. Sophomore Evan Wilson won two events for the Ducks as they dropped their first dual-meet since February 3, 2007 at the United States Merchant Marine Academy. Stevens is now 1-1 on the season.

Wilson was victorious in the 1000-yard freestyle and 200-yard individual medley. He carded a time of 10:03.75 in winning the 1000-free and a 1:59.48 in the 200-yard IM. The sophomore also recorded a second-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:13.60). Rookie Bill Bagdon placed third in the 1000-free as he turned in a 10:17.28.

Freshman Matt Smith finished second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:48.07), and sophomore Nicholas Walulik was third in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 56.30. He also took second in the 200-back (2:05.58). Sophomore Matt Preedy placed third in the 100-yard breaststroke as rookie Carl Nagle was fourth in the same event. Nagle also turned in a second-place finish in the 50- and 100-yard freestyles as he finished the 50 with a time of 21.89 and was extremely close to the school record (21.88). Freshman Steven Vealey was third in the 100-free (50.75).

Smith was second in the 200-fly with a 2:02.80 as freshman Steven Rawson was third, and Bagdon was fourth. Bagdon was second in the 500-yard freestyle (4:58.40), and freshman Sean Iveson was third as he carded a time of 5:15.88.

TCNJ took first in both relays.

“Even though we got beat soundly on the scoreboard, I felt both the men and women swam well,” Head Coach Trevor Miele said. “We got some strong individual swims and are improving, and that is all I can ask.”

The Ducks will return to competitive action on November 15, at Misericordia University. Last season, the Ducks won a tight meet over Misericordia, 129-114.
