HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 5, 2008) – On Sunday afternoon at the De Baun Athletic Complex, the No. 12 Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team shutout its third-straight opponent as the Ducks defeated Empire 8 rival Alfred University, 3-0. Stevens dominated the game from start to finish and has now outscored its three Empire 8 opponents 14-0. The win moves the Ducks to 10-1-1 overall and 3-0 in the conference.

Alfred (0-12 overall, 0-3 Empire 8) was only able to muster three shots during the entire 90 minutes of action as Stevens held a mind blowing, 35-3 advantage in shot and a 7-1 edge in corners.

Sophomore Nolan Sandberg scored the game-winner for the second-straight day in the 13th-minute. Sandberg controlled a pass about ten yards away from the right post, beat two defenders and put a shot to the left of Alfred goalkeeper Elliot Thorpe (Highlands Ranch, Colo.).

Thorpe played a nice game as the freshman made a couple of spectacular saves. All in all, he made 13 saves on the day.

Stevens went up 2-0 at 23:23 when junior Chris Faustino put a long pass down the left side on the foot of senior Jeremy Lippel who was able to do the rest. It was Lippel's fifth goal of the season and Faustino's third assist.

The Ducks went into the break allowing the Saxons to get off just one shot. Sophomore Zach Carr was in net for his third-straight shutout and sixth of the season. He had to make only one save. Since Stevens' lone loss of the season to Swarthmore (2-0), the Ducks have allowed just one goal in five games. They are 4-0-1 in that time period.

Junior Todd Sheridan scored Stevens' third goal on a great cross from junior Terrence Johnson. Johnson crossed deep in the Alfred zone from right to left, and Sheridan took the pass, that was still in the air, and pounded it into the top left corner of the net. It was his second gorgeous goal in as many days as he now has four goals this season and has been playing very well of late.

16 of the Ducks' 35 shots were put on goal as Stevens has now outscored its opponents 40-5 this season. Carr's goals against average is now a season-low .44.

Stevens will return to action with a non-conference game at Kean University on Saturday, October 11. The game is slated for a 7 p.m. start.
